Scenes from my shantytown neighborhood in a small town in Oklahoma. This neighborhood dates back to the dust bowl era in the 1930s and many of the old houses are still standing and have been relegated to tumble down sheds on the back of the property lots while newer houses were built on the fronts of them. Many are now being torn down so I had a project to capture as many as possible in art form before they were just a fading memory. Some are actual tarpaper shacks and others were sided with asphalt shingles, some were wood but all were humble. This seems to never have been a wealthy part of town, but a place where everyday working class people have lived for decades. To me these old pieces of history are more interesting than a fancy mansion on a hill. This collection even includes a memory of an old car from the 1950s that was parked in a driveway across the alley from where I live. Somebody held onto it, maybe planning to restore it someday.
