Description
A colorized artistic version of an old photograph of a New York City street corner during the 1930's great depression era in a bricktown section of a business district. The focus is on two store fronts, one is a auto radiator shop and the other next door is a sign shop. Both appear to be suffering the economic downturn of the poverty stricken times by the look of the rundown appearance of the outsides of the buildings with peeling paint and empty windows. There also looks like a moving truck parked outside the door of the sign shop and a man standing on the stoop as if he is taking a break from emptying the store of it's contents after it went out of business. Off to the right is traffic on the side street entering and exiting what appears to be a parking garage tunnel or entrance to a warehouse district. There is a pedestrian crossing the street and a red sedan stopping at the intersection. The radiator shop appears to still be open for business and possibly the owner lives above in an apartment. The street out front is a cobblestone pavement made from bricks. I added the colors in muted tones to keep the mood of the the scene hungry and depressed like the times were. This is adapted from a photograph courtesy of the NYPL public domain collections and taken by photographer Berenice Abbot.
