I like to take pictures of butterflies. It is a challenge to be able to get a good clear shot and on this day I was having some troubles chasing after the flashier more colorful butterflies like the painted lady and the tiger swallowtail when this battered and plain little guy got cooperative and posed for a photo shoot! He wasn't the least bit shy or skittish about letting me get quite close with my macro lens and I was able to discover some details I had never seen before, like how furry he was and how tattered the edges of his wings were as if he had narrowly escaped some trauma the likes of which I can only imagine, or he was just of a good old age for a butterfly. This photo is unedited.
