Description
One of the most common and beautiful wildflowers in the state of Oklahoma is the Gaillardia, more commonly called the Indian blanket flower which resembles a sunflower with a sunburn. My favorite thing about this funky little flower is that when all the petals fall off, the center persists as a little red round puff ball for weeks and can be dried and used in autumn arrangements and wreaths. In the spring on my land there is a hillside that gets completely blanketed with these gorgeous blooms and shows just how they got their nickname. I made this digital painting using my own original photograph.
