Description
One of my favorite local wildflowers is the yucca with it's thick greenish yellow tulip like bell flowers and the strange looking stamens inside that are covered in a sticky residue to help the pollen stick to the bugs that venture inside this cool looking bloom. Native Americans used the roots of this plant to make soap and called it Soap weed. It is one of the more recognizable native plants to central and western Oklahoma and one that some are surprised to see growing this far east as it is usually thought of as a desert plant.
