Description
The Butterfly weed is a species of Milkweed that is the host plant to the Queen and the Monarch butterflies. It produces much nectar and is a great attractant for bees, hummingbirds and other pollinators. It blooms in big clusters of yellow and orange flowers that almost look like they are made out of wax and has a sweet fragrance. Unlike it's cousin the common milkweed this plant does not emit the white "milk" from the broken stems but it does have the beautiful silky haired seed pods. It grows wild in Oklahoma but is much more rare than the common milkweed in the wild and seen cultivated in butterfly gardens more often.
