Description
When I lived in the country it became a regular activity for me to rescue bullsnakes from my dogs. That is what I was doing the day I was fortunate enough to get the photograph I used to make this piece from. The title is very appropriate as it is the habit of these beautiful non venomous snakes to impersonate a rattlesnake, striking and hissing while shaking the hidden end of their tail in the grass making a rattling sound that is surprisingly convincing. This act is usually enough to scare off any person who is not familiar with bullsnakes. Unfortunately though it only serves to get dogs into a frenzy in which the snake usually ends up dead. So I would come out and relocate the poor guys before my dogs killed them whenever I could, because they are great rodent control!
