A brilliant red male cardinal takes a break while gathering twigs for his nest and perches on a bare branch on a cold day in December. His vivid scarlet red color stands out against the bleak gray colors of the dormant bush with it's wild array of limbs reaching out every which way. He doesn't let his guard down while he rests and is ready to flit away and be gone in a flash of crimson at the slightest threat. These lovely birds really are a treat to see on a dreary long winter day! #redbird
