Description
When I used to live close to to the woods one of my favorite pass times was to get out among the trees and study the local plant life. There are many amazing species of trees in the woods on my land, but I think one of my very favorites are the tall towering Cottonwoods with their coin shaped leaves that quake in the wind and turn the most beautiful shades of golden yellow in the fall. I even like them better than the aspens I left behind in my home state of Colorado because they have the lovely textured thick brown bark almost to the tops where the smaller branches have the classic white poplar bark. These trees are always the tallest in the woods because they grow so fast. One field guide I read said they can grow up to 3 feet per year. The downside is that they break easily in high winds and ice storms which we have regularly here in Oklahoma. I made this image using my own photograph and adding an oil painting effect with canvas texture using Gimp.
