Besides being a useful piece of equipment for a cattleman a windmill like this can also make a great perch for a hunter on a day with no wind. This red tail hawk uses it for this purpose every chance he gets. I used to like to watch him swoop down off of it into the field to catch an unsuspecting mouse, rabbit or snake. Something I have always noticed about birds is that whenever I am watching them, they are always watching me back. This guy was no exception and we used to eye each other daily when I lived out in the country.
