Artist's Description
This is a glimpse into everyday life in the warehouse district of New York City on Broome street during the sad and poverty stricken great depression era of the 1930s. The scene should be bustling with business but instead times are hard and business is slow so delivery men, truck drivers and warehouse workers are standing and sitting around chatting. The painted banner sign on the building is faded and the false house front needs repairs. Adapted from a photograph by Berenice Abbott in the public domain and used courtesy NYPL digital collections.
