Description
Three young barred rock chickens are resting in the grass, with their distinctive black and white striped plumage clearly visible. One chicken looks directly at the camera while the others are seen in profile, exhibiting their bright red combs and sharp beaks. The pullet hen has her leg out in the funny way that chickens do when they are relaxed.
The pullet got named Maave and is one of my best brown egg layers. The cockerels got named Noodle and Stew and have since gone to freezer camp as we could only keep one Rooster and that batch of chicks had five more that are not pictured here, making seven of them! So six turned out to be meat birds. Such is life on a sustainable farm.
