Description
This is a photo merge of a civil war reenactment and a vintage hand drawn survey map of the area of Virginia involved in the 2nd Battle of Rappahannock Station which was a victory for the Union troops under General George G. Meade against Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The battle took place on November 7,1863 and by that evening the confederate troops were throwing down their arms and surrendering. 1670 confederate soldiers were killed or wounded and captured in comparison to 419 union casualties. It was a glorious victory for the north and a humiliating defeat for the south who had failed to take the union position there in August of 1862 and had been forced to retreat after 2 days of skirmishes. General Lee once again was forced to march his army south.
