Description
You can probably guess how this pretty wildflower got it's name. The bright yellow flowers of this plant that most people around here consider an invasive weed grow profusely inside and outside of the cow pens. Verbesina is the real name but cow pen daisy is so much easier to remember! They are a great flower to have if you want to attract butterflies and are the host plant to the beautiful border patch butterfly which resembles a small version of the monarch. The butterfly in this image is a Cabbage White. I love this "weed" because the flowers bloom from early spring all the way to the first frost, but they leave a lot to be desired in the perfume department. I made this digital oil painting from my own photograph. some people mistake this genus for sunflowers.
